Little Dragon and lyrics: “Ritual Union”

Here is our attempt at translating the words to the title track from Little Dragon’s upcoming record. Hopefully they are correct, although they probably won’t be. At least it gives you an idea for the sing-along. I’ll attempt “SummerTearz”, “NightLight”, and “Little Man” later.

Ritual Union

Ritual union has got me in trouble again
I was wonderin’ of a white dress
And a mistress
And her spirit – holding my hand!

Love sinking in the sand
Petals falling on demand
My feet are running like the wind
I’m sorry, boy – that we sinned
Love is not like they say
I lied, it’s hard to make it stay
I drown my feelings in the sea
Then dried out over on the beach

Ritual union has got me in trouble again
I was wonderin’ of a white dress
And the mistress
And a spirit – holding my hand!

Mother, tell me how it is
I know you’ve been through all of this
You ran away so many times
Your kids, your heart, a couple of dimes
Love is not like they say
I lied, it’s hard to make it stay
It drowns my feelings in the sea
I dried up over on the beach…

i think she might say, “and a spirit reader holding my hand”
    hard to be sure though!

  2. Daniel says:

There’s a slight syllable in there that could suggest it, for sure. Maybe with the CD version? Both lines would make sense, in truth.

  3. Missy says:

I can’t wait for this album! I listened to the song while reading the lyrics, some might be incorrect, but basically it seems all there. I get the gist of the song, I think. I love Little Dragon even though I don’t get most of their lyrics.

  4. Daniel says:

If there’s any corrections to be made then let us know. There’s a real strength in her building an image through the lyrics. I guess it also allows for greater interpretation, which really is the most fun aspect of art from a viewers/listeners point of view.

  5. Artur says:

Rather than “boy, don’t sin” I think she says “boy don’t be said” It just makes more sense :)

  6. L says:

    to me it sounds like…

*i was wonderin of the white dress and the mistress and the spirit holding my hand

*father tell me how it is

from their youtube “video” of the song http://youtu.be/0Yeb3q5nqWA

  7. john BARTH says:

    beautiful……..

  8. Pigeon says:

I think it’s “I’m sorry, boy, that we sinned.” ???

  9. john BARTH says:

    CORRECT YOU ARE!!!!!

  10. Daniel says:

Fantastic corrections, guys. Thanks so much.

  11. Sean says:

I keep hearing, “Petals falling under my hand” and I think it makes more sense than “on demand” but it’s hard to hear.

  12. 259 says:

Although I think this is one of (if not the), best pieces to come out in a while (especially the “Tensnake Remix”) since United Snakes by Massive Attack (speaking of snakes), I really would love to here a Ministry Lay Lady Lay version of this thing. I think that would change some lives.

  13. Napua says:

    sounds like:

it or I drown(s) my feelings in the sea,
then dry it out over on the beach

  14. Alexandra says:

i think it’s “ritual unions have got me in trouble again” instead “ritual union has”

  15. richrich says:

All correct except for this line:
Ritual union has got me in trouble again

    should be

Ritual union(s) has got me in trouble again

    • richrich says:

      sorry, correcting myself: should be:

Ritual union(s) have got me in trouble again

      every other line is correct.
